Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing

Journal of Powder Materials (JPM) adheres to Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (ver. 4, published September 15, 2022; https://doaj.org/apply/transparency) developed by Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). Compliance checklist of the journal to the joint statement is as follows.

2. Website

The official website of our journal is https://powdermat.org/. The JPM team endeavors to make a high-quality website with accurate information and adherence to ethical and professional standards. It does not contain any misleading information, including any attempts to mimic other journal/publisher websites. Information for authors and readers is described in detail on the journal website. Key information can be found by clicking on the headings below.

6. Licensing

Journal Practices

7. Publication ethics and related editorial policies

JPM adheres to the guideline of COPE (https://publicationethics.org), Recommendations of International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (https://www.icmje.org/recommendations).

In case the journal faces suspected cases of research and publication misconduct, such as redundant (duplicate) publication, plagiarism, fraudulent or fabricated data, changes in authorship, an undisclosed conflict of interest, ethical problems with a submitted manuscript, a reviewer who has appropriated an author’s idea or data, complaints against editors, and so on, the resolution process will follow the flowchart provided by COPE (https://publicationethics.org/resources/flowcharts). The discussion and decision on the suspected cases are carried out by the Editorial Board. JPM will not hesitate to publish errata, corrigenda, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when needed.

8. Peer review

All papers, including those invited by the editor, are subject to peer review. JPM employs a single-blind review process, in which the reviewers’ identities are concealed from the authors, while the authors’ information is disclosed to the reviewers.
Reviewers are selected by the editor based on their expertise, publication record, and previous review performance.
During the peer review process, reviewers may communicate or exchange information (e.g., through the submission system or email) only with the editor, ensuring an independent and unbiased review. An initial editorial decision is typically made within four weeks after the reviewers agree to review the manuscript. No information regarding the peer review or editorial decision process is disclosed on the article page. Manuscripts submitted by editors, employees, or members of the Editorial Board are handled in the same manner as other unsolicited submissions. However, such authors are excluded from all stages of reviewer selection and decision-making. Editors do not manage their own manuscripts, even in cases where the manuscripts are invited.
All articles published in JPM include the dates of submission, revision, acceptance, and publication on their respective article pages. JPM operates an online submission and peer review system, accessible at https://submit.powdermat.org/. Further details on the peer review process can be found at https://powdermat.org/policy/review_policy.php.

9. Access

JPM is a free access journal, with articles available on both the journal's website and DBpia (https://www.dbpia.co.kr/). Full-text articles can be accessed directly through the journal's website. Subscribers to DBpia can also access the articles via the DBpia platform. Free full-text service both in the XML and PDF formats is available immediately upon publication without an embargo period.

JPM accepts advertisements in the print copies of the journal. Any individuals or organizations who are interested in advertising their products or services are encouraged to contact the editorial office. The acceptance of advertisement will be discussed by the editorial board and will be ultimately approved by the publisher. The journal also accepts sponsorships, and any articles supported by sponsors will be clearly labeled as sponsored content. Advertisements are separate from editorial content and do not influence editorial decisions.

16. Direct Marketing

Journal propagation is achieved through the journal website and the distribution of an introductory pamphlet. Invitations to submit manuscripts are typically extended to presenters at conferences, seminars, or workshops that align with the journal's aims and scope.

In addition, we declare that these principles acknowledge the responsibility of publishers and editors in promoting accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusivity in all aspects of publication. Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit, and should not be influenced by the authors' nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, or religion. JPM is committed to ensuring that its policies do not create an exclusionary environment and will regularly evaluate them for inclusiveness.
